Saskatoon Stallions
The Saskatoon Stallions played in the 1997 Prairie League. Formerly the Saskatoon Smokin' Guns the Stallions went 18-18 in the first half then won the second-half northern division title with a 20-10 record. Based in Saskatoon, SK and managed by Keith Smitt, the team drew 28,288 fans, 4th in the dying league in attendance. Ernesto Nieves was pitcher of the year and led the league in wins (10-1) and ERA (2.45). Brian Nelson (1-1, 16 Sv, 1.75) led in saves. Joining Nieves as an All-Star were OF Brian Cornelius (.331, splitting the year with the Moose Jaw Diamond Dogs), SS Brian Giles (.360) and former manager Andre Johnson; the outfielder hit .358 with 22 homers (second in the league) and 20 steals. Andre slugged .695.
