Santa Maria Indians
The Santa Maria Indians were a Summer Collegiate Baseball team who played at Elks Field in Santa Maria, CA. Founded in 1944 they were one of the oldest amateur teams in America until they ceased operations after the 2008 season.
The Indians appeared in two National Baseball Congress World Series finals, losing in 1979 then winning the 1982 championship, beating the Anchorage Glacier Pilots 11-4 in the final. Right fielder Dave Hengel of the University of California was named MVP of the series.
Championship winning manager Steve McFarland would later lead the Glacier Pilots to the 1986 NBC crown.
