Biographical Information

Sang-ho Kim is a former KBO MVP.

Kim debuted in 1988 with the MBC Blue Dragons, hitting .270/.323/.427. He put up a .257/.351/.412 line with 21 steals in '89. Traded to the OB Bears, the Seoul native hit .275/.370/.430 in 1990, fell to .208/.287/.292 in 1991 then rebounded to .300/.377/.489 with 26 doubles in '92. He batted .264/.333/.382 in 1993 and .249/.334/.366 in 1994. After that unimpressive campaign, his 1995 was a shocker - Kim produced at a .272/.335/.474 rate with 25 HR and 101 RBI. He led the league in homers (3 ahead of Jong-hun Jang and Dong-soo Lee) and RBI (14 more than Hae-yong Ma). He was named as one of the league's top three outfielders, alongside Jun-ho Jeon and Kwang-rim Kim and also was named the MVP.

Sang-ho's OPS remained mostly steady at 1996 with a .269/.324/.467 campaign. His 20 homers tied Kyung-ki Kim for fourth in the league. In 1997, he batted .315/.393/.499 for his last big year; he was 10th in the KBO in average. On August 12, he became the 14th KBO player to 1,000 hits. He played only 34 games in 1998 (.241/.365/.310). Moving to the LG Twins in 1999, he hit .253/.360/.416. He was 2 for 31 with 9 walks in 2000 to end his career.

Overall, Kim produced at a .265/.346/.421 line with 196 doubles, 136 home runs and 624 RBI in 1,229 KBO games. Through 2006, he was 33rd in league history in doubles (between Kwang-rim Kim and Jin-man Park, 31st in games, 28th in home runs, 24th in RBI (between Byung-kyu Lee and Soon-chul Lee), 30th in runs (581),31st in walks+HBP (517) and tied for 38th in steals (113, even with Ji-man Song).
