Biographical Information[edit]
Samuel Estrada pitched for the Nicaraguan national team.
He debuted in Nicaragua's amateur leagues in 2014, going 11-6 with 3 saves and a 2.59 ERA for Dantos. He led the league with 3 shutouts. [1] He was 12-2 with a 2.09 ERA in '15, leading the league with four whitewashes and also leading in wins.
Estrada was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in the 2015 Pan American Games; his three appearances tied for the team lead. He took the loss against Benny Cepeda and Puerto Rico. Only Berman Espinosa had a lower ERA for Nicaragua. [2] He had a 12-6, 3.18 record in '16. In the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he pitched 1 2/3 IP but struggled. Relieving Gustavo Martínez in the 6th with a 2-0 lead over Germany, he walked Donald Lutz and Ludwig Glaser and Bruce Maxwell tagged him for a three-run home run to put Germany ahead. He added another walk and a Kent Matthes double but did not allow a run before José Luis Sáenz relieved. [3]
Samuel struggled in 2017 (2 R, none retired) for Dantos. In '18, he was 3-1 with a 3.34 ERA. He was 0-2 with a save and a 6.12 ERA in 2019 and struggled in 2020 as well (2-4, Sv, 6.75).
