Samir Abujamra

From BR Bullpen

Samir Abujamra was the third baseman for the Brazilian national team that tied for first in the 1959 South American Championship. In the 1959 Pan American Games, he batted second and manned third for Brazil; the Chicago Tribune only carried box scores for four of Brazil's six games but he stood out as their star - going 7 for 16 with 3 RBI. He had 3 hits against Costa Rica and drove in both runs against the USA. He also won Silver with Brazil in the 1963 South American Championship and was with them for the 1963 Pan American Games. He was unusual for that era as his family was Syrian and the Brazilian team was otherwise of Japanese descent.
