Biographical Information[edit]
Saliya Wijesinghe has pitched for the Sri Lankan national team.
He was on the Sri Lankan team that won the 2017 West Asian Baseball Cup, the first West Asian Baseball Cup title for the country. [1] That qualified them for the 2017 Asian Championship. In that event, he retired the only batter he faced and went 0 for 3 with two whiffs as a backup outfielder. [2]
Sri Lanka's baseball team played in their first Asian Games in the 2018 Asian Games. In the opener, he reached on an error by Laotian national team pitcher Cola Phouangkeo and scored on a single by Akalanka Ranasinghe. He grounded out in the 3rd against Soua Xong. Kasthuri Mudali Naween Anuradha pinch-hit for him later in the 15-10 win. [3] Against Thailand, he replaced Mudali late in a 14-3 loss and registered an assist but did not get to the plate. [4]
Wijesinghe was with Sri Lanka for the 2019 West Asian Baseball Cup; they successfully defended their title. [5] In the 2019 Asian Championship, he was rocked in his one outing, pitching between Kamal Galahitiyawe Gedara and Mudali in a loss to Taiwan; he gave up 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning. His 81.00 ERA was the staff's highest; Sugath De Silva was next at 31.50. [6]
