Biographical Information[edit]

Saburo Nakamura was a regular in the early years of the Japan Professional Baseball League, primarily a second baseman but playing several positions. He hit .208/.271/.324 for Dai Tokyo in the spring of 1937, his best season. He led the league with 46 strikeouts. He slipped to .198/.342/.286 for Lion the next fall. In '39, Nakamura batted .194/.280/.290 with a career-high 13 doubles, 4 homers and 5 steals for Nagoya. Remaining with Nagoya the next year, he put up a .191/.272/.280 line with a career-best 36 runs, 33 RBI and 39 walks. Overall, his career batting line was .196/.282/.293 in 276 games. He served in the Japanese military during World War II and was killed in service at the Battle of Khalkhin Gol in 1939.
