Biographical Information[edit]

Ryuya Ogawa has pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Philippines national team. His father is Japanese and his mother is Filipino.

Ogawa threw a 15-inning complete game in high school. The Chunichi Dragons took him in the second round in the 2009 NPB draft. He made his NPB debut in 2011, tossing one shutout inning, retiring Kenta Maeda, Masato Akamatsu and Akihiro Higashide. He pitched one game in NPB in 2012, allowing two runs in four innings to take a loss, again working primarily in ni-gun. In the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he got the start against the host Taiwan national team and allowed 5 hits, 4 walks and 3 runs while fanning five in 4 innings in taking the loss; his bullpen surrendered 13 runs in the next 3 innings to make a close game into a 16-0 loss. A 2-run single by Yung-Chi Chen was the big hit off him.
