Biographical Information[edit]

As a senior at Grand Canyon University, shortstop Ryan Bethel hit .382 with 18 doubles and 35 RBIs in 47 games. He was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the 32nd round of the 2005 amateur draft. He made his pro debut that summer, hitting .357/.478/.472 with 12 doubles in 33 games for the Princeton Devil Rays before being promoted to the Visalia Oaks later in the season, where he was 3 for 14 with two walks.

In 2006, however, he hit just .103/.235/.115 in 30 games as a utility infielder for the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays before being let go by the Rays; he finished the year with the North Shore Spirit of the independent Canadian-American Association, hitting .257/.374/.337 in 60 games there. He spent the next two years playing in the independent Frontier League, primarily with the Evansville Otters. He split 2007 between Evansville (.249/.342/.328) and the Washington Wild Things (.234/.275/.447).

For Evansville in '08, Bethel batted .294/.386/.411 and also pitched a scoreless inning.

Bethel was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Grand Canyon University from 2007 to 2011. He was interim head coach in 2011 after Dave Stapleton was fired in March. He was then head coach at Millenium High School through 2017, when he stepped down to pursue an administration position opportunity [1].
