Biographical Information[edit]

Rudney Balentien played four seasons in the minors, in the Philadelphia Phillies chain.

Balentien debuted with the 2007 DSL Phillies, hitting .236/.329/.285 with 34 strikeouts in 123 AB; he stole 12 bases in 15 tries and fielding .923 in left field. In '08, he batted .214/.310/.310 and was caught in 10 of 24 steal attempts. He fielded .954 while starting in left. He tied for 9th in the Dominican Summer League in times caught stealing. Moving to the VSL Phillies in 2009, he hit a superb .352/.422/.681 with 8 home runs and 23 RBI in 27 games. Despite his part-time role, he tied for 6th in the Venezuelan Summer League in homers and he would have led in average had he qualified. Back with the DSL Phillies for 2010, he slumped to .196/.310/.285 and stole 9 bases in 18 tries. He fielded .953 as the starter in center.

Balentien played for Sparta/Feyenoord in the 2011 Hoofdklasse, batting .232/.306/.293. He was Curacao's leadoff hitter and center fielder in the 2011 World Port Tournament but was just 2 for 25 with a run and 2 RBI.
