Biographical information[edit]
After serving in the Women's Air Corp during World War II, catcher Ruby Heafner played six seasons in the AAGPBL with four different teams.
She started off in 1946 with the Rockford Peaches, hitting only .141/.276/.180, backing up Dottie Green. She was 2 for 8 in the playoffs, her only postseason experience. Moving to the Fort Wayne Daisies, she hit .172/.298/.207 and fielded .965 in 65 games in 1947. With the same club in 1948 and 1949, she backed up Mary Rountree; W.C. Madden's AAGPBL Record Book lists her with identical stats both years, almost definitely an error (50 G, .171, 25 for 146, 2 2B, 3B, 4 SB, 11 BB, 18 K, 5 R, 7 RBI); it is unclear for which season these numbers are correct.
Her best year in terms of average unadjusted for league was 1950, when she hit .211/.231/.235 with 17 RBIs for the Racine Belles. She fielded .978 as a starter. In 1951, she ended her career batting .205/.369/.228 and fielding .959 for the Battle Creek Belles.
