Between 1920 and 1995, the Battle Creek Belles were the only professional baseball team in Battle Creek, MI. In 1951 the Racine Belles moved to the city from Racine, WI and kept the Belles nickname. The club started very poorly, finishing last in the first half (11-44) before improving a bit to 19-35 in the second half of the season. The roster was in constant fluctuation as the vast majority of the players also appeared for another club that year. 1952 was little better (43-67), as the team finished last in the AAGPBL, which had shrunk to six teams. Joe Cooper managed the club both years. In 1953 the franchise was moved to Muskegon, MI where they became the Muskegon Belles.
