Biographical Information[edit]

Rubén Sierra Jr., the son of Rubén Sierra, began his professional career in 2009.

Sierra was rated by Baseball America as the #124 prospect entering the 2009 amateur draft. He was picked by the Texas Rangers in the sixth round of the draft, their second position player after second-rounder Tommy Mendonca. Sierra was scouted by Frankie Thon, no stranger for Puerto Rican baseball families, being a member of one himself.

Sierra struggled in his first pro season, hitting only .202/.254/.229 with 47 strikeouts in 109 AB, fielding .953 while playing mostly left field for the AZL Rangers. He hit only .130 against left-handers and wasn't that hot against righties at .221.
