Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Roy North was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the seventh round of the 1979 amateur draft and played six seasons in their organization, briefly reaching the AAA level.
North split his first summer between the Kingsport Braves (4-1, 2.68) and Greenwood Braves (1-1, 3.50). In 1980, he turned in a 9-8, 4.15 record for the Anderson Braves, walking 71 in 156 innings. The tall right-hander fell to 6-11, 4.71 with the '81 Durham Bulls. He spent 1982 with Durham (6-4, 4.67) and the Savannah Braves (1-1, 9.00, 17 BB in 15 IP). In 1983, the Rider alumnus was with Savannah (9-7, 3.48) and the Richmond Braves (0-1, 7.58). He was 10th in the Southern League in ERA. He wrapped up his career with the 1984 Greenville Drive, going 1-1 with 3 saves and a 5.79 ERA, walking 32 in 42 innings. Overall, his record as a pro was 37-35, 4.40 in 134 games (96 starts). He walked 323 in 654 1/3 innings.
After his professional career ended, he remained active in Philadelphia's Pendel League and the Lehigh Valley's Blue Mountain League. He coached softball, basketball and soccer in Greenwich Township.
