Rookie of the Month Award
The Major League Rookie of the Month Award is an official award of Major League Baseball given out each month to the best rookie in the American League and in the National League. The award is voted on by sportswriters based only on performance over the past month. The award was created in 2001 as a complement to the existing Player of the Month Award and Pitcher of the Month Award.
In the award's first year of existence, Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners was its recipient for five of the six months in the American League, which remains a record. Mike Trout of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is the only player to win the award in four consecutive months, doing so in the AL in 2012.
