Biographical Information[edit]
Catcher Ron Scott played on the University of Miami team that finished second on the 1974 College World Series. He and his newly married wife were the target of some particularly vulgar heckling from Florida St. fans during the 1975 College World Series South Regional. Scott entered the stands after the game followed by teammates, at least one with a bat. Miami coach Ron Fraser was able to get the players out before punches were thrown. Murray State coach Johnny Reagan was quoted as saying "In Kentucky, they shoot people who say things like that."
Scott played one pro season with the Portland Mavericks of the Northwest League, hitting .225 in 41 games. From 1989-2022, he was head coach at Fresno City College. Scott has guided the Rams to the CCCAA State Championship in 1992, a second-place finish in 2001 and six third-place finishes. The 1992 team finished 45-7, best in school history. That 1992 final was the first time two schools from northern California (FCC beat Sacramento City College) contested the championship game. Scott won 1,100 games.
