Biographical Information[edit]
Left-hander Ron Mrozinski , a 19-year-old pitcher, was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as an amateur free agent before the 1949 season. Ron's first assignment was with the Carbondale Pioneers of the North Atlantic League where he went 10-12 with a 4.34 ERA. Ron pitched in the low minors for the next four seasons, coming up with a 53-48 record for his four years work. He was invited to Philadelphia to show his stuff about the same time television did.
TV was becoming an American way of life at about the same time Mrozinski came up with the Phillies in 1954 and he became part of the 1955 Bowman baseball card set which depicted pictures of the players on a television screen. The left-hander had a 1-3 record in 37 games along with a 5.36 ERA in his two years, working mainly in relief during his short stay in the major leagues in 1954 and 1955.
At the young age of 25, Ron was not going to give up on his baseball talent just yet and in the next seven seasons he pitched for eight different teams in six different leagues. In 1958 Ron had a good year with the Tulsa Oilers in the AA Texas League, winning 15 games with a 3.27 ERA and in 1959 he went 12-8 with a 1.86 ERA for the Birmingham Barons of the Southern Association.
But Ron received no calls from the big boys and finished out his 13-year (1949-1962) career in pro baseball, going 7-7 with a 4.06 ERA in his final season. Overall he had a fine minor league record, winning 119 games and losing 106 in 382 appearances with a 3.48 ERA. After baseball Ron made his home in Washington, NJ, where he was employed as a production mechanic in the plastic tube division for the American Can Company. Ron died on October 19, 2005 at the age of 75, in Washington.
