Biographical Information[edit]
Ron Maestri was head coach of the University of New Orleans from 1972-1985, going 518-247-1 with trips to the 1974 Division II World Series (2nd place) and 1984 College World Series. Among his players were Eric Rasmussen, Randy Bush, Wally Whitehurst, Jim Bullinger, Mark Higgins and Roger Erickson. He also served as athletic director at New Orleans from 1979 to 2000. He managed Team USA in 1981; they won the 1981 World Games and 1981 Intercontinental Cup (he presumably was in charge for each). He later was executive director of the New Orleans Zephyrs then returned to UNO as head coach for two more seasons from 2014 to 2015.
After college, Maestri coached high school baseball for five years at Princeville High School, Peoria Spalding Institute, and Pekin High School. He then spent four years as an assistant baseball and football coach at Bradley University.
