Biographical Information[edit]

Roger Holt was a standout athlete at Leesburg High School. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds after his senior year but instead opted to attend college. Holt played at the University of Florida for three years and led the team in hits, runs scored, and stolen bases several times. He was drafted in the 4th round (101st pick overall) of the 1977 amateur draft by the New York Yankees.

Holt was a star in the minor leagues: he had the game-winning hit in the minor league World Series and was named the Yankees minor league player of the year. In 1980, he was called up by New York and given the number 55; he played in 2 games. In those games Holt had 6 at bats; he struck out twice, walked once, and got one hit (off Aurelio Lopez of the Detroit Tigers). However, the following spring, he was traded to the Texas Rangers for infielder Tucker Ashford. Holt played for the Denver Bears in 1981, the Rangers' AAA affiliate. Elbow problems plagued Holt in the latter part of his career ultimately causing him to retire.

He is the father of Cleveland Indians minor league pitcher Jonathan Holt.
