Rodney Daal signed with the San Diego Padres in 2010. Daal is the son of former Hoofdklasse player and coach Ritchie Daal, the brother of players Randy Daal and Ricky Daal and the cousin of players Emeron Lourens and Témesh Lourens.

Rodney hit .316/.316/.526 in the 2009 World Youth Championship, with four doubles and five RBI in five games. In the 2010 World Junior Championship, he struggled at .161/.235/.194 with 12 strikeouts in 31 at-bats while fielding .917 for the Netherlands. He made his Hoofdklasse debut with HCAW that year, going two for five with two doubles. He was attending the European MLB Academy when the San Diego Padres inked him to a 7-year deal in August.

Daal made his US debut on June 20, 2011, starting at catcher for the AZL Padres and hitting 6th. He went 0 for 4 with a walk and a throwing error. He started the season 3-for-26 with two doubles, three walks and nine strikeouts while allowing 19 steals in 22 tries.
