In 1891, the Rochester Broncos became the Rochester Hop Bitters. The Rochester, NY entry in the Eastern Association was managed by Tom Power and someone named Kerstein. At 36-60, they were 7th in the 8-team EA. OF Joe Visner hit .330 and slugged .533 to lead the offense, but only played 49 games for them. Second baseman Sam Wise took over the reigns in 1892, when the loop was renamed Eastern League. Overall, they won the most games at 68-57, but did not finish first in either half and thus missed the playoffs. Wise hit .315 and slugged .438; his 18 triples between Rochester (15) and the Binghamton Bingoes (3) led the EL. He also stole 30 and scored 90 times. OF Buster Hoover (.282, 39 SB, .406 SLG) tied for the EL lead with five home runs. George Meakim (22-8, 1.04) led the staff. The club did not return in 1893.
