Riki Paewai was a minor league pitcher.
Paewai debuted in Australia in the 2005 Claxton Shield, tossing 6 1/3 shutout innings for the Queensland Rams against the New South Wales Patriots on opening night, his only outing of the year. The San Diego Padres signed him and sent him to the AZL Padres, where he was 1-2 with a 3.77 ERA but walked 25 in 28 2/3 IP. He did not pitch in the 2006 Claxton Shield then split the summer between the AZL Padres (12 H, 6 BB, 7 R in 6 IP and Eugene Emeralds (1-0, 1.50 in 4 G) to end his US career at 1-2, 4.67 with 31 BB in 34 2/3 IP.
Paewai returned to Australia for the 2007 Claxton Shield, allowing five runs in 5 1/3 IP for the Australian Provincials. In '08, gave up 2 hits, 3 walks and 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning in his homeland. He did not appear in Australia's top league from 2009-2012. He then joined the New Zealand national team for the 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. In his lone outing, he relieved Andrew Marck in the 4th with a 7-0 deficit against host Taiwan and worked 1 1/3 shutout innings, though he walked three and allowed one hit; Lincoln Holdzkom succeeded him.
In the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he was back with New Zealand. In his only game, he relieved Randy Yard in the 9th against South Africa with a 4-0 deficit, two on and two out. Brandon Bouillon singled in a run and Keegan Swanepoel singled (an error by Max Brown on the play made it a two-run play) for a 7-0 deficit before Benjamin Smith lined out.
