Biographical Information[edit]

Rickard Ljung has played for the Swedish national team. He has spent over a decade (1997- ) with the Sundbyberg Heat.

Ljung was 1 for 5 for Sweden in the 1999 European Championship and was 1-0 with 9 shutout innings, fanning nine. In 2003, he hit .338/.452/.504 for Sundbyberg but fielded under .900 at both shortstop and third base. He was 6-3 with a 5.10 ERA on the mound. He was 4th in average, tied Rickard Reimer for third in slugging and was third in OBP behind Per Lindgren and Magnus Pilegård. He was second to Pilegård in wins by a pitcher.

In the 2003 European Championship, he was 3 for 12 with two walks. He allowed 18 hits, 12 runs and 6 walks in 9 2/3 innings pitched. For the 2004 Heat, Ljung batted .361/.474/.553. In '05, he hit .187/.442/.270 and was 1-0 with a 8.31 ERA. He was still chosen for the Swedish team for the 2005 European Championship, going 1 for 5 with a walk and pitching 4 1/3 shutout innings. He was not as sharp in the 2005 Baseball World Cup, giving up five runs in 1 2/3 innings. He hit .238/.273/.286 and his four RBI were second on Sweden, one behind Pilegård. He batted .238/.273/.286 and fielded .833 at third base.

In 2006, Rickard hit .346/.449/.492 and was 6-2 with a 3.78 ERA. He tied for 4th in the league in wins and was 7th in slugging. Ljung produced at a .387/.481/.495 rate in 2007. He was among the leaders in OBP (6th) and average (4th). He was 1-1 with a 4.42 ERA on the mound. He hit .188/.316/.250 for Sweden in the 2007 European Championship.

Ljung went 1 for 2 at the plate for the 2008 Heat.
