Biographical Information[edit]
Rick Guarno played two seasons at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County from 2001-2002 before playing a final collegiate season at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 4th round of the 2003 Amateur Draft after his junior year. He played in their minor league system from 2003-2008, reaching AAA in his final season with the Rockies organization. Overall Guarno hit .252/.321/.361 while appearing in 287 minor league games. In 2009 Guarno played a final season for the Calgary Vipers in the independent Golden Baseball League.
Following the completion of his playing career, Guarno returned to Little Rock to begin a coaching career. He coached at the college level for over a decade starting at his alma mater where he was an assistant coach in 2011-2012. He moved to Young Harris College (Division II) for the 2013-2014 seasons where he was an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator. These two roles continued at subsequent jobs. Guarno spent the 2015-2017 seasons with the Skyhawks of the University of Tennessee at Martin program. His final collegiate stop was coaching the Red Wolves of Arkansas State University from 2018-2021.
The New York Yankees hired Guarno to serve as the hitting coach for the FCL Yankees in 2022, Tampa Tarpons in 2023, and Hudson Valley Renegades in 2024.
