Biographical Information[edit]

First Baseman Rick Bernardo played in the minor leagues and the CPBL.

Bernardo was named the All-American first baseman in 1986 by the American Baseball Coaches Association, joining Jeff King and Matt Williams most notably in the infield. He played in three College World Series, slugging .821 in a season. [1] He was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 12th round of the 1986 Amateur Draft, and he hit .252/.319/.363 for the Salem Redbirds in 1986. He then spent his next three seasons with the Port Charlotte Rangers, hitting .277/.340/.362, .244/.300/.289 and .257/.341/.336 respectively. In 1987, his 8 triples tied for second in the Florida State League, two behind Jacob Brumfield. He also recorded a .248/.310/.311 batting line for the Miami Miracle in 1989. The Uni-President Lions signed Bernardo when they were founded, and he hit .322/.382/.491 with a league-leading 33 doubles. He was 5th in batting (.020 behind Kuang-Hui Wang), 6th in RBI (13 behind Luis Iglesias) and 2nd in hits (6 behind I-Tseng Lin). He was also selected into the 1990 CPBL All-Star Game, and he was 4-for-11 with 2 doubles. Bernardo announced his retirement after the 1990 season.[2] In 1999, he was inducted into Maine's Hall of Fame. [3]

Overall, Bernardo hit .258/.321/.332 with 380 hits and 60 doubles in minor leagues.
