Biographical Information[edit]

Richard Webster pitched in the New York Mets system in 1981 and 1982 after being taken by the club in the ninth round of the 1981 amateur draft, ahead of first baseman Fred McGriff.

In 1981, he was 1-5 with a 3.66 ERA in 10 starts between the Kingsport Mets and Shelby Mets. In 1982, he was 8-8 with a 3.49 ERA in 22 starts for the Lynchburg Mets. Overall, he was 9-13 with a 3.54 ERA in 32 starts.

His life came to a tragic end in January 1983 when he drowned, alongside three friends, when a boat he was in capsized in the Mississippi River.
