Biographical Information[edit]
Rich Yett, although drafted in a low round (the 26th) in the 1980 amateur draft, managed to come to the majors and pitched six years.
Yett was a starter in the Minnesota Twins organization from 1980-1985, going 12-6 for the Wisconsin Rapids Twins in 1981, 16-9 for the Visalia Oaks in 1982, and 12-9 for the Toledo Mud Hens in 1984.
His major league debut was on April 13, 1985, but after one major league appearance he spent the rest of the season in the minors. He suffered a shoulder injury in spring training that year. In September 1985 he was involved in the Bert Blyleven trade that sent him to the Cleveland Indians.
Yett spent most of 1986-1988 in the majors with the Indians, although he pitched a bit in the minors each year. Although mostly a reliever in the majors in 1986 and 1987, he started some games each season, and in 1988 he became a starter, going 9-6.
In 1989 he started 12 games out of 32 total appearances. After the season he signed as a free agent with Minnesota and spent the 1990 split between the major league club (where he had a 2.08 ERA in 4 appearances) and the team's affiliate the Portland Beavers.
