Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Rich Maloney was selected in the 13th round of the 1986 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves. He played in their farm system until 1991, earning all-star honors in 1987 with the Sumter Braves.

Maloney was an assistant coach at Western Michigan University from 1992 to 1995. He became a head coach at Ball State University from 1996 to 2002. Maloney was the head coach at the University of Michigan from 2003 to 2012. He then returned to Ball State as head coach in 2013.

Maloney's son, Alex Maloney, played in the minor leagues in 2017, then became an assistant college coach.
