Biographical Information[edit]

Reinaldo Ruiz was a catcher in the Houston Astros minor league system for eight years. He started with their Venezuelan Summer League affiliate in 1997-1998 before moving to the Dominican Summer League team for 1999. Ruiz missed the 2000 season due to injury. He played stateside from 2001-2005 reaching High-A ball for the last three seasons with the Salem Avalanche. Over his final five seasons when stats are available, Ruiz hit .230/.284/.311 while appearing in 184 games.

After retiring, Ruiz joined the Tampa Bay Devil Rays organization as a minor league coach and manager. He started as a catching instructor in 2007 with the joint VSL Devil Rays/Reds team and served in the same role with the VSL Rays in 2008. He returned to the United States to coach in 2009.

In 2018 Ruiz was scheduled to manage the Bowling Green Hot Rods for a fourth season but was moved up to the Charlotte Stone Crabs a week before the season started when Crabs manager Jim Morrison had to take medical leave. Two years later, Ruiz was supposed to manage the GCL Rays before their season was cancelled due to COVID-19.

In addition to coaching for the Rays, Ruiz also spent several offseasons coaching in the Venezuelan League and one year in the Australian Baseball League.
