Biographical Information[edit]
Red Whitsett was a longtime scout.
Whitsett was in the United States Navy from 1940-1946. He coached and taught at Grady High School for 12 years, then was the Atlanta City Schools' Coordinator of Boys High School Physical Education. He became a part-time scout with the Baltimore Orioles in 1962. After his career in the schools ended, he became a full-time scout for the Orioles (through 1973), California Angels (1975-1979), Kansas City Royals (1980-1986), and Milwaukee Brewers (1990-2000). He also supervised college basketball referees. He signed Tom Gordon and Bill Spiers among others.
