Biographical Information[edit]
Raymond Theobald played three seasons in minor league baseball including part of one season with an affiliate of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
In 1943, Theobald was an outfielder who split his time between the Piedmont League Durham Bulls who were affiliated with the Dodgers and the Southern Association Atlanta Crackers. In 122 games for the two teams, he posted a .223 batting average with 10 doubles and 5 triples. He had a combined .967 fielding percentage in the field.
Raymond was out of organized baseball from 1944 to 1946. In 1947 and 1948, he played for the Thibodaux Giants in the Class D Evangeline League where he was mostly used at third. In 170 games over the two seasons, Theobald posted a .274 batting average with 29 doubles, 9 triples, and 16 home runs.
After baseball, Theobald settled in Metairie, LA with his family and worked for The United Fruit Company and later the U.S. Selective Service agency. For the last eight months of his life, Theobald suffered from dementia and the effects of a stroke but was still able to live on his own. In June 2009, he was walking home from a park a half a mile from his house when he was struck and killed by an eighty year old driver who said she did not see him crossing the road. At the time of his death, Theobald was survived by two daughters, three sons and nine grandchildren.
