Biographical Information[edit]

Relief pitcher Rayan Gonzalez began his professional career in 2012.

He was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the 18th round of the 2008 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He did sign after being taken by the Colorado Rockies in the 21st round of the 2012 amateur draft.

Despite striking out 27 batters in 24 innings in 2012, Gonzalez went 0-3 with a 6.75 ERA in 22 appearances for the Grand Junction Rockies in 2012. With the Asheville Tourists in 2013, he went 2-3 with a 2.68 ERA and 12 saves in 49 games, striking out 70 batters in 53 2/3 frames. He went 4-5 with a 3.99 ERA and 11 saves in 50 games for the Modesto Nuts in 2014, averaging more than a strikeout per inning. He began 2015 with Modesto.

His father, Melvin Gonzalez, pitched in the Boston Red Sox minor league system from 1989 to 1993.
