Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Ray Hoffman spent three seasons in professional baseball from 1940 to 1942. He appeared in seven games in the Major Leagues with the Washington Senators in 1942, picking up one base-hit in 19 trips for an .083 Major League career average.
On February 25, 1943 he was traded by the Washington Senators, with cash, to the Minneapolis Millers of the American Association for Mickey Haefner, but chose to close out his career instead.
Hoffman spent the rest of his three seasons (1940-1942) in professional baseball in the minor leagues. His best season was his first when Ray hit for a .310 average in 118 games with the Charlotte Hornets of the class B Piedmont League. He finished out his minor league time in 1942 at age 25 with the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern Association with a .256 average. His minor league stats show that he hit at a .259 average in 364 games.
Hoffman died at the age of 90 on May 30, 2008 in Milton, GA.
