Biographical Information

Ravelo Mazanillo started two games for the Chicago White Sox in 1988 and did not appear in the major leagues again until 1994 with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He compiled a 4-3 record with 1 career save. The save came on June 30, 1994 with the Pirates against the Cincinnati Reds. He replaced Mike Dyer in the top of the 9th with runners at 1st and 2nd and no outs. Manzanillo struck out Lenny Harris, got Thomas Howard to pop out, gave up a two-run double to Jerome Walton, then retired Tony Fernandez to end the game. The Pirates won, 6-4. That same day, his brother, Josias Manzanillo, pitching for the New York Mets, also recorded a save, making them the first pair of brothers to record a save on the same day.

In addition to his brother Josias, his nephew Jerry Gil played in the bigs leagues.

Manzanillo was the first player to throw no-hitters in both the minor leagues and Taiwan. On May 21, 1992, he threw a no-hitter for the Brother Elephants, the second no-hitter in CPBL history (following Chieh-Jen Yang). He was the first left-hander and first foreigner to throw a no-hitter in Taiwan. On June 28, 2001, he threw a 7-inning no-hitter for the Yucatan Lions of the Mexican League against the Campeche Pirates. Interestingly, his brother Josias has thrown a minor league no-hitter in 1989.
