Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Raul Marval spent 17 years in professional baseball. He played in the San Francisco Giants system from 1993 to 2000, reaching Triple-A in two seasons, then he spent 2001 to 2007 in independent ball and 2007 to 2009 in Italy. He began his professional career at 17 years old. Not particularly adept offensively, he didn't have 100-plus hits in a season until 1997, when he had 112 for the Bakersfield Blaze. In his first try at Triple-A in 1999, he hit .300/.339/.436 with 84 hits in 97 games for the Fresno Grizzlies—that was his first .300 mark for any team, and his last until 2007, when he hit .319/.363/.458 in 42 games for Montepaschi Grosseto. It was in indy ball that his bat began to wake up, as he hit 10-plus home runs three times in four seasons, including a 16-homer campaign for the Atlantic City Surf in 2004 and a 17-homer season for Atlantic City in 2006. 2006 was perhaps his best season overall, as he hit .298/.354/.455 with a .810 OPS, 146 hits, 88 runs scored and 71 RBI in 124 games. He was an Atlantic League All-Star that year. He was a Serie A1 All-Star in 2007.

Overall, Marval hit .243/.279/.307 with 16 home runs, 229 RBI and 577 hits in 723 games in the Giants system, .280/.337/.412 with 58 home runs, 310 RBI and 657 hits in 622 games in indy ball, .321/.389/.458 with 8 home runs and 74 RBI and 126 hits in 107 games in Italy. In total, he hit .266/.315/.367 with 82 home runs, 613 RBI and 1,360 hits in 1,452 games.
