Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Rankin Johnson was the father of Rankin Johnson Jr. Johnson's family is quite illustrious, as his father or grandfather (also Adam Rankin Johnson) was a Civil War general for the Confederacy, and his son (another Adam Rankin Johnson) became president of the Eastern League.
This Rankin Johnson had a notable set of five matchups in 1914 against Walter Johnson. All five were shutouts by one or the other, with Walter winning three of the five.
He managed the Austin Rangers in 1923, Temple Surgeons in 1924, Harrisburg Senators in 1925 and 1926, and Chambersburg Maroons in 1926.
