Biographical Information[edit]
R.C. Orlan has pitched in the minors.
Orlan was All-State as a high school senior. The Los Angeles Dodgers picked him in the 44th round of the 2009 amateur draft, one pick before Ken Giles, but he opted for college. He had a 4.38 ERA as a freshman reliever then had a 3.06 ERA for the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod League. As a sophomore, he was 2-0 with a 0.79 ERA and 24 K in 19 IP. He pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings against Vanderbilt University in the 2011 College World Series. Back with Bourne, he had a 1.50 ERA and 21 K in 18 innings that summer.
In 2012, the left-hander was excellent, going 8-1 with a 2.21 ERA, 66 K and 11 BB in 57 IP. He tied for 4th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in wins and tied Mike Morin for 3rd with 38 games pitched. The Washington Nationals then took him in the 30th round of the 2012 amateur draft; the scout was Paul Faulk. He made his pro debut the next summer with the Auburn Doubledays, mostly used as a starter despite having been a reliever in college. He had a 1-5, 3.65 record, tying for 6th in the New York-Penn League in losses. Back in the bullpen by 2014, he split time between Auburn (1-0, Sv, 4.19 in 17 G) and the Hagerstown Suns (0-2, 6.28 in 6 G).
Orlan split 2015 between Hagerstowen (3-1, 4 Sv, 3.23 in 27 G) and the Potomac Nationals (Sv, 2.20 in 8 G). He was 5-6 with 9 saves and a 3.93 ERA in 41 games for Potomac in 2016. He then joined the Israeli national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers but did not get into a game for them.
