Team History[edit]
The Pittsburgh Tigers were formed in 2005 as founding members of the Erie Shores Collegiate League. The Tigers, a Summer Collegiate Baseball team who played their home games at Jack Critchfield Park on the Campus of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania attempted to provide minor league-style competition for NCAA players wishing to continue on into professional baseball. The Tigers folded along with the ESCL after a single season, but laid the foundation that would soon bring professional baseball to Slippery Rock.
The Tigers' operated in the model of a typical Summer Collegiate Baseball team: recruiting players, playing nightly before fans in stadiums, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, the Pittsburgh Tigers were unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and lived with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.
