Built in 2002 and located on the campus of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, Jack Critchfield Park is the home of the NCAA Division II The Rock of Slippery Rock University. Jack Critchfield park is considered by many to be one of the premier Division II ballparks in the country. In 2007, the park was home to a brief lived experiment in combining practical education with the daily operations of a working minor league baseball team. The Slippery Rock Sliders of the independent Frontier League made their home at Jack Critchfield Park and many of the management and operations duties of both the team and the facilities were caried out as internships for SRU students. Despite the progressive ideas of this experiment, the Slippery Rock Sliders proved an unfortunate combination of very bad and very unpopular. The relationship between SRU and the Sliders did not last past the 2007 season. Jack Critchfield Park remains the home of "The Rock" and one of the premier Division II ballparks in the country.
