Biographical Information[edit]

Pil-sun Kang is a former Olympic infielder.

Kang was 4 for 12 with two doubles, two walks and five runs for the South Korean national team in the 1994 Baseball World Cup; he backed up Jae-gul Kim at second base. In the Gold Medal game loss to Cuba, he appeared as a pinch-runner for Hee-bong An.

Kang hit .333/.429/.722 as Korea's main third baseman in the 1995 Intercontinental Cup; he fielded .857 at the hot corner. He remained Korea's starter at third in the 1996 Olympics, when he was just 3 for 20 with nine strikeouts. Two of his hits, though, were homers, tying In-sung Cho for the team lead.

Kang had a very brief pro career. With the 1999 Hyundai Unicorns, he was 3 for 11 with a double and a homer. He played one game but did not bat in 2000 and went 0 for 1 in 2001, concluding his five-game career with 12 at-bats, fewer than he had in the Olympics.
