Biographical Information

Jae-gul Kim has spent over a decade in the Korea Baseball Organization. A light-hitting infielder, he has sometimes shown speed and is presumably a good defender.

Kim hit .261/.346/.391 as the main Korean 2B in the 1994 Baseball World Cup though he was 0-for-3 in steal attempts. In the 6-1 loss to Cuba in the Gold Medal Game, he went 0 for 2 and was hit by a Lazaro Valle pitch. He won Silver with South Korea in the 1994 Asian Games as well.

Kim debuted in the KBO in 1995 with the Samsung Lions, hitting .249/.322/.356 in 109 games. He batted .228/.303/.297 in 1996 and stole 40 bases in 54 tries. He posted only a .176/.211/.412 batting line in 30 games in 1997 then hit .250/.306/.270 in 72 contests in '98. He missed 1999-2000, presumably to military service.

Jae-gul batted .261/.313/.333 in 70 games in 2001, then slipped to .207/.265/.283 in 83 contests in '02. In 2003, he hit .199/.253/.255 in 85 games, then just .188/.246/.219 in 64 games during 2004. The veteran rebounded in 2005 to bat .247/.311/.290 in 103 games, his most appearances in 9 years.

Kim was with South Korea for the 2006 World Baseball Classic as a backup infielder. He walked twice, stole a base and did not register an official at-bat in five games. Back with Samsung for the 2006 campaign, Kim hit .211/.266/.287 in 115 games. In 116 contests in '07, he batted .232/.317/.290 and stole 17 bases in 24 tries.

In the 2008 KBO season, Kim hit .230/~.324/.299 in 99 games.
