Piggy Sands played for five years at the end of the Negro Leagues.

Sands debuted as a shrotstop with the Indianapolis Clowns in 1950; he was already in his 30s but the Negro Leagues were rapidly losing players to the minors and majors and they needed replacements. Piggy moved to catcher. He started at catcher and hit 8th for the East in the 1953 East-West Game but went 0 for 3 before being replaced by Otha Bailey in a 5-1 loss. He ended his career the next year with the Kansas City Monarchs.
