Biographical Information[edit]

Phoenix Sanders looked like he was in for a rough day when he made his major league debut for the Tampa Bay Rays against the Oakland Athletics on April 14, 2022, after having been called up from the minors before the game. Coming in in the top of the 5th with the Rays trailing 5-1, he quickly loaded the bases on a single by Sheldon Neuse, a walk to Billy McKinney and a single by Elvis Andrus. But after a mound visit from pitching coach Kyle Snyder, he got Kevin Smith to ground into a double play, and while this allowed Neuse to score, he then retired the next seven batters he faced in order to finish the outing with just one run allowed in three full innings of relief, saving the Rays' bullpen after a short outing by starter Josh Fleming.
