Biographical Information[edit]

Philippe Bonnery played for the French national team.

Bonnery came to the US on a baseball scholarship from France. [1] He was France's starting center fielder in the 1991 Intercontinental Cup, fielding .962 with two assists but only getting one hit in 25 at-bats, with 11 K; he walked twice. His lone hit came off the USSR's Leonid Korneev. [2]

He again started in center in the 1993 Intercontinental Cup, batting .087/.087/.217 with 3 runs in 8 games, fielding .968. His 5th-inning solo homer off Shane Tonkin prevented a shutout loss to Australia. [3] In the 1993 European Championship, he played a big role in France finishing in the top half of the standings (for the first time ever?), hitting .350/.409/.500. He led the team in average (.032 ahead of Franck Didot) and doubles (3) and drove in six runs in six games. Mostly splitting DH with Antoine Alran, he tied for 6th in those Euros in doubles (even with Francesco Petruzzelli, Eddy Dix, Félix Cano, Stephan Jäger, Frank van Droogenbroeck and Craig McDonald. [4]

In the Division Elite, he played for the Paris Université Club. After baseball, he worked as an artist in the US. [5]
