He struck out 59 in 52 innings and allowed only 33 hits, though he walked 35. Had he qualified, he would have been 9th in the New York-Penn League in ERA.
Peter was again 5-1 the next year, now with the Piedmont Phillies. He saved one game but his ERA rose to 4.52. He did not allow a home run in 61 2/3 innings. In 1996, the right-hander had a 2-3, 3.61 record for Piedmont and registered 18 saves. He fanned 67 in 52 1/3 innings.
Nyari was 0-4 with a 2.70 ERA and five saves for the 1997 Clearwater Threshers, giving up only 29 hits in 43 1/3 innings. He peaked at AA in 1998 with the Reading Phillies. That year, he went 1-7 with three saves and a 5.29 ERA. He led the club with 53 appearances out of the bullpen.
Peter then played in the independent leagues. He was 1-6 with a 5.85 ERA for the 1999 Lehigh Valley Black Diamonds. He split 2000 between the Black Diamonds (9 R in 9 1/3 IP) and the Aberdeen Arsenal (4-5, 5.74). He then moved on to Italy for several seasons.
In 2001, Nyari was 0-3 with a 7.71 ERA for Parma, allowing an opponent line of .362/.483/.536. Despite that, he was called back for the next year, when he improved to 7-2, 3.43 with 100 strikeouts in 86 2/3 innings. He was 4-4 with three saves and a 3.79 ERA for Parma in 2003 while moving to the bullpen. He allowed one run in six innings for the Italian national team in the 2003 European Championship.
Nyari turned in a 4-0, 3 save, 3.47 season in 2004 with San Marino. He made the Italian team for the 2004 Olympics, going 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA. Only Michael Marchesano had a lower ERA on the Italian squad. He also got Italy's lone win in the Athens Games. He relieved David Rollandini with a 4-3 deficit in the 7th against the Taiwan national team and retired all eight batters he faced. When Italy scored twice off Chien-Fu Yang in the 9th, Nyari got credit for the win.
In 2005, Pete was 2-1 with 7 saves and a 3.86 ERA for San Marino. He tied Mattia Salsi for second in the league in saves, behind Ilo Bartolucci. He then saved two games despite a 6.75 ERA in the 2005 European Championship to help Italy take Silver; only Eugen Heilmann had as many saves in the tournament.
At age 34, Nyari finished with a 2-2, 7 save, 5.13 campaign for San Marino. He was 0-3 with a 4.30 ERA and another seven saves in 2007. He tied for the Serie A1 lead in saves.
