Biographical Information[edit]
Peter Mooney helped the University of South Carolina win a College World Series championship in 2011.
He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 37th round of the 2009 amateur draft and the St. Louis Cardinals in the 46th round of the 2010 amateur draft, both from Palm Beach State College. The Toronto Blue Jays drafted him in the 21st round of the 2011 amateur draft from the University of South Carolina and he played in their minor league system from 2011 to 2014. After playing for the independent New Jersey Jackals in 2015, Mooney returned to affiliated ball in 2016-2018 with the Miami Marlins organization. He finished his playing career with the Wichita Wind Surge in 2021. Mooney played at least parts of four seasons at the AAA level but never received a call to the major leagues. He was a middle infielder during his career and hit .243/.331/.340 in eight minor league seasons.
Mooney joined the coaching ranks when the New York Mets hired him as an infield coach for the FCL Mets in 2022-2023.
