Biographical Information

Peter Ciofrone reached AAA in 2007 but never played in the major leagues.

Ciofrone was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 18th round of the 2002 amateur draft. He hit .243/.333/.360 for the GCL Red Sox that year. In 2003, he batted .276/.381/.366 in 38 games for the same club. He began 2004 with the Augusta Green Jackets, hitting .286/.383/.387 after 67 games. He was then traded to the San Diego Padres as the player to be named later in a deal for Brandon Puffer. He spent the remainder of '04 with the Fort Wayne Wizards, hitting .261/.348/.325 in 42 games. Overall, he fielded just .940 at second base between the two stops.

In 2005, the New Yorker had a big year for Fort Wayne, hitting .301/.391/.400 with 7 steals in 8 tries and a team-high 59 RBI. Ciofrone split 2006 between the Lake Elsinore Storm (.292/.396/.426, 74 RBI in 86 G) and Mobile BayBears (.231/.429/.231 in 15 games), missing most of May with a lower back strain. He hit .208 for the West Oahu Cane Fires in the Hawaii Winter Baseball league.

Ciofrone split 2007 between the San Antonio Missions (.261/.339/.365 in 97 G) and Portland Beavers (.248/.296/.398 in 36 G). He became an outfielder primarily that season. He was better in 2008, playing for San Antonio (.254/.351/.373 in 19 G) and Portland (.314/.389/.519, 18 HR in 97 G). He was used mostly at third base but also played right field, left field, first base and DH.

For the Gigantes del Cibao in the 2008-2009 Dominican League, he went 1 for 10 with a double. He is on the provisional Italian roster for the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

After hitting .180 in 90 games for Portland in 2009, Ciofrone became a free agent.
