Biographical Information[edit]

Pete Tountas was one of three players surnamed Tountas who played for the Greek national team in the 2012 European Championship, alongside Nikko Tountas and Adonis Tountas.

Pete was picked by the New York Mets in the 46th round of the 2005 amateur draft out of high school, two rounds before they took Jeremy Hefner. He hit .282 as a college freshman and was drafted again, this time by the Boston Red Sox in the 41st round of the 2006 amateur draft, but again did not sign. He fell to .258 while battling injuries as a sophomore. Transferring to Evansville, he hit .254/.331/.432 as a junior but only .191/.280/.319 as a senior.

Signing with the Gateway Grizzlies that summer, he produced at a .185/.244/.272 clip with 31 strikeouts in 81 at-bats, while fielding .892 at short. In 2011, he was a utility man for the Edmonton Capitals, but batted only .169/.319/.305 with 27 strikeouts in 59 at-bats. 6 of his 10 hits went for extra bases as a positive. In the 2012 European Championship, he hit .231/.259/.356 with 3 runs and a RBI in six games, while fielding .889 as Greece's starting shortstop.
