Biographical Information[edit]

Pete Mann played in the minors before dying during a game. His brother Johnny Mann would make the majors. Pete played third base for the Macon Peaches in 1926 and 1927. During during a July 13th game in 1927, he was at bat against Tom Farrell with Tom Angley at first base. The catcher called for outside pitches with Angley taking a big lead. After two such pitches, Mann stepped in closer to the plate. Farrell's next pitch turned at the last minute, hitting Mann in the chest and killing him. He is the only professional player to die from a pitch hitting him in the chest (through 2013).
