Tom Farrell (minors01)

Tom Farrell was a pitcher in the minors. He was 16-9 with a 3.12 ERA for the 1927 Asheville Tourists and appeared to be a good major league prospect (he was in the South Atlantic League top 10 in wins and ERA). On July 13, he hit Pete Mann of the Macon Peaches in the chest with a pitch, killing him. Farrell was heartbroken over the incident, locking himself in his hotel room afterwards. A jury ruled it an accident. In an odd twist of his fate, his manager, Larry Gardner, had been a teammate of Ray Chapman.
